The Left Civilization in Leang Leang

Leang Leang, a tangible evidence of prehistoric human existence which still exists and stands majestically until now.

Back again with a new destination, the exchange students who joined the Modul Nusantara class continued their journey to another historical place in Makassar. In the next week of the "Traces of Historical Heritage" episode, in the third week of September to be exact, the lecture accompanied the exchange students to go to another place. They are moved to the western part of South Sulawesi, precisely in Maros, which is 30 km away from Makassar, as the next stopping place.

The destination is called Leang Leang. It is one of the famous tourist attractions which form of a prehistorical park. There are many high limestone cliffs surrounding the park. The word "Leang Leang" is taken from a local language, namely Bugis Language. In Bugis Language, "Leang-Leang" means as cave. It is called so because in this park there are many prehistoric caves which are estimated to have existed since 3000 until 8000 BC.

The evidence that some of these caves once became the abode of early humans is the discovery of a prehistoric painting in the form of jumping deer pigs in the wall of the cave. In addition, dozens of palm drawings were also found near the deer pig painting. There are thirty two palm drawings in total which were found in the Pettae cave.
